China is planning to explore the feasibility of using 3D printing technology to construct buildings on the moon, utilizing its lunar exploration program.

According to Wu Weiren, the chief scientist of China National Space Administration, the Chang'e-8 probe will conduct on-site investigations of the lunar environment and mineral composition, and examine the feasibility of using advanced technologies such as 3D printing. News reports suggest that 3D printing can be used on the lunar surface.

"If we want to stay on the moon for a long time, we need to use the materials available on the moon to establish a station," Wu said.

Reportedly, many domestic universities, including Tongji University and Xi'an Jiaotong University, have begun researching the possible application of 3D printing technology on the moon.

The report states that Chang'e-8 will be the third lunar lander in China's next lunar exploration mission after Chang'e-6 and Chang'e-7.
